M1 Rifle Bayonet Knife. The M1 Garand rifle was first used with the 40 cm M1905 bayonet. In 1942, the U.S. Army determined that a shorter bayonet was more effective. The existing M1905 bayonets were shortened by 25 cm, and new 25 cm bayonets were manufactured. Cutting bayonets generally have a full tang extending to the tip, but this newly manufactured model has a full tang approximately 7 cm above the tip. This bayonet is made according to original specifications in high-carbon blued steel with a hard plastic handle.
