This can be taken as an approximate value:
- For rough work - grinding of gun sights or if the tool is very dull, a stone with grain 120 to 400 is recommended.
- For normal sharpening tasks, a stone with grain 700 to 2000 is suitable.
- To remove fine burrs and polish surfaces, use grain sizes 3000 to 12000.
